A little about me....
My name is Jackie Mumpower and this is my
12th year teaching. This is my 5th year at North Columbus Elementary School. My husband retired from the Army
in 2006 and we have decided to make Columbus our home. During our military travels, I was fortunate to teach in the Anchorage School District and Ft. Benning schools. We have two girls. Kayla is a freshman
at Columbus State and Kristan is a junior
at Columbus State University majoring in Early Childhood
Education.
My life started in Stroud, England and I moved to Quebec, Canada when I was seven. My family moved around for a few years but we settled in Ottawa, Ontario. I spent all of my middle school and high school years in a little town called Manotick, Ontario. I met and married my military man in 1988 and that's how I ended up in the US. We were soon stationed in Germany and we later moved to Ft. Benning. It was at Ft. Benning that I decided to become a teacher. My girls attended Dexter Elementary School and I loved the school so much that it made me want to be a part of the teaching profession. I
received my Bachelor's Degree from Columbus State University and then my family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. When we returned back to the Columbus area, I received my Master's Degree in Elementary Reading and Literacy from Walden University.
I completed my Gifted Endorsement in 2007 and in 2009 I graduated
from Columbus State University with my Ed.
S in Educational Leadership.
I have learned so much from all the schools I have taught in. The opportunity to work with great teachers has made me the teacher I am today. I like to stay up on current Best Practices so I read a lot and try new things. I have attended many professional development workshops and I always come away with something to share. I have
presented workshops on Writing Workshop, 6 Traits Writing, Using Assessment Data to Drive Instruction (using DRA), Zoo-Phonics, and Systematic Sequential Phonics.
I am also a Trained 6 Traits Writing Tutor and a Certified First Steps
Facilitator.
